Choose Kind
In English, the Grade 6's have been reading a book called Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It was an amazing book to read and it had a really strong impact on me.
This book is filled with wonderful themes but what stood out for me the most is how many perspectives you see from while reading this book. This helps you understand all the different sides to different events that took place in the book. It also makes the book more interesting and not so one sided which helps you understand the characters better and follow the story. It also makes you realize that everyone has a reason for what they do and though it might not have been the best decision, it's not only their fault, but that there's at least two sides to every story.
This story has changed me with it's touching topics and it has helped me not be so quick to judge. As mush as we all try to be nice, we all sometimes just judge people for no reason. This book has helped me really think about what I'm doing and get to know the person before just deciding that I don't like them. The way August was judged only based on his facial features makes me realize that sometimes I might do the same thing. Though not for the same reasons, it is still just as bad. I have learned not to judge people for superficial reasons because this book has shown me just how bad it is.
I would identify most with Summer, because she wanted to be friends with Auggie even though everyone judged her for it. She made friends with him right away because of who he is as a person. I would identify most with her because I see some of those features in myself like how quick she was to make friends with him. If I were in her situation, I would make friends with him too and not out of pity or because I was forced to, but because I would want to get to know him and have good friends, not friends who gossip about others and that is how I choose my friends.
Overall, it was an amazing book and I recommend it to people my age. It is a book that really encourages readers to 'Choose Kind'.
Thank you for this wonder(ful) blog post, Kabelo! You have expressed yourself so well and I can tell that this story has had an impact on you!
ReplyDeleteI believe that you truly are a 'Summer' and I encourage you to remain so. Your choice to be kind will inspire others too!
