Change of Heart

Piper had things that she wanted to do but told herself she couldn't. She didn't believe much, but that didn't stop her dreams. One day, she opened the door ready for school, but everything she expected to be there wasn't there, but it was replaced with some weird almost magical world. It left her in disbelief, but she just went with it, because this was that paradise that her parents told her existed. Suddenly the ground shook, she fell and woke up. It was all a dream, but she knew that it was real. Was this her change of heart?

Success from Failure

I could feel the adrenaline pumping. I was prepared for anything. It was when I started the race that I knew there was something wrong, but thinking about all the training put into this and I knew that I had to continue. I was leading. I could see the finish line, then I fell badly. I felt like I had to give up. Especially hearing the commentator saying things like "Emma Andricks has fallen and Julianna Marie has taken the lead!" Then something made me get back up and finish. I didn't win, but at least I finished the race.

The Perfect Dance... Or Is It?

Hazel was getting ready for a dance. Her outfit was perfect, her hair was perfect, her makeup was perfect. Everything seemed perfect, but she knew something was wrong. She just didn't know what. Immediately, she rushed downstairs and asked her sister, Ashlyn, "Is there anything on my face!". Ashlyn then gasped. She explained to her sister that there was a huge spot on her face. She tried to remove it, but the spot just grew and grew. Well that's how it seemed.

A Mind Party

Image
My story was about a mind party which is when even though you're in public, your mind tells you that you're at a party. I chose this topic because I wanted to make a story with humour. I also wanted to do something that no one else would do.

Lazy Saturday

Elsie had enough of waking up early on Saturday mornings to go to gymnastics. This Saturday, she got to be lazy since there was no gymnastics.  She opened her kitchen cupboard  and she saw all the snacks in existence. After her ten minute spastic victory dance, she started grabbing snacks. The items she found were chips and sweet snacks. She placed everything in a row on her table in her room so she could lie down. As she ate and watched TV, she saw a fly but it instantly left the room. Her exact words were "Best lazy Saturday ever!"

A day in the life and home of a child in an informal settlement

( Flashback) Ayanda! The house is a mess, Mom is dying and you still have to go to school! You know what forget school, we need to take care of mom!(end of flashback) I always dream about that moment, the last few days of my mom's life. I'll never forget her. What's worse is that my dad is now becoming very ill and there aren't many doctors to help him, because we live in an informal settlement. Well now you know my name is Ayanda. I am 7 years old with a 16 year old sister, Keo.  My house is not very big, but I still love living here. Even though it is an informal settlement, it is very lively. If you come you will really enjoy yourself with all the joyful vibes.  Breakfast this morning was the same old home made pap, dry pap. This was because today, water was scarce. This morning, I didn't go to school, because I still had to take care of my dad. Mornings are not really my favourite time of the day. They are just so boring because everyone is always asleep at the

Disconnected

Annie and Sydney were inseparable. Together, they could do anything. They met when they were 5 and ever since then, they did everything together. That was until Sydney moved. At first Annie called her regularly, but soon they started drifting apart. Everything fell apart when the connection broke. The problem was that they were both too busy to call each other. One day Annie found the time to go shopping and there she was! Sydney was right there in front of her. They both couldn't believe their eyes, but they were overjoyed.

100WC Challenge 2 The Congregation Conversation

Image
"You have called us all here for a meeting, why?", questioned John curiously. "Two thousand people have moved into our country, but only seventy of them have filled in the correct forms.", responded Peter. "Why do you need us?", Andrew asked. "I heard that you both led congregations, so I figured that you could convince any newcomers in your congregation to fill them in, since there will be many people there. "But some things on those forms are unnecessary! John Exclaimed "Fine, I will have a conversation with the president about that.", Peter finally concluded.

100WC Challenge 1- House of the Horrifying Reptile

The door opened and there it was. In front of you was a huge, green scaled monster. It was like a bigger crocodile which breathed fire and had a great thirst for blood. You thought you were having a normal study session with your friend at her house, but nothing went according to plan. Many thoughts went through your mind like 'Why did I open that door?  as you ran to save yourself. You find out it's weakness is water so you lead it to the pool. After it fell it got taken away and you left the scene unharmed. Kabelo Grade 5

Highlights of High Africa

Last week from Wednesday to Friday, the Grade 5's went on camp to High Africa. I found it really exciting getting to build a raft and go into the river. We had a lot of free time to swim in it as well. I really loved doing the low ropes or 'Long Walk to Freedom' as they call it. The leap of faith was very fun. When I started the jump it was scary and my reaction was priceless, but afterwards I realised how great it was. I was really enthralled by  the rock climbing, but I only made it halfway. Another thing I really enjoyed, was participating in the potjie competition. It was challenging working as a team for some of the activities like the rafting and the low ropes. Another challenge was having to deal with all the mosquitos in our cabin because nobody wanted me to spray the mosquito repellent. Camp was a fun experience with some challenges and I can't wait to go back to High Africa in Grade 7.

ILT Soil Creature Project

Image
Last week we were put into partners for our ILT project. Lola was my partner and we chose the Cape Golden Mole as our creature. On the first day of ILT, our class did an assessment on problem solving that had to do with soil creatures . After that we started to create our sentences for our poster. I wrote down facts about it's habitat and I also wrote down interesting facts. The next thing we did was go to the IT room, watch a photo story about soil creatures and tally what we saw . When we came back we did some more graphs about the same creatures. The next day we started our posters using the supplies and information we had. Lola and I worked really well together and finished really quickly. When we were done we got to make an iMovie using all the information we had gathered. When we were back in class there was a lot of cleaning up to do. Friday the final day of ILT we made orals about our creatures. Lola and I first had to stick our bibliography on the poster. When we s
